The five areas

Twelve questions, two or three in each area.

  1. 01

    Customer channels

WhatsApp, social media, your website and marketplaces.

    • How do customers reach you on WhatsApp?
    • Where can customers find and buy from you online?
  2. 02

    Daily operations

How much work is manual and how jobs are tracked.

    • How much time goes to repeat admin, like retyping data, chasing payments or making quotes?
    • How do you keep track of orders, jobs or bookings?
  3. 03

    Data and records

Accounts, spreadsheets and one source of truth.

    • How do you keep your accounts?
    • If you need this month’s sales by product or customer, how long does it take?
  4. 04

    Compliance

LHDN e-Invoice, PDPA and SST where it applies.

    • Where are you with LHDN e-Invoice?
    • How do you look after customer personal data under the PDPA?
    • If you charge SST, how is it worked out?
  5. 05

    AI use today

ChatGPT and similar tools, AI in service, AI rules.

    • How does your team use ChatGPT or similar AI tools?
    • Is AI part of your customer service?
    • Do you have rules for using AI at work?

How is the score worked out?

  1. 01Each answer is worth 0 to 3 points, from the least to the most set up.
  2. 02An area score is its points as a share of the most it could get, from 0 to 100.
  3. 03A question that does not apply to you, such as SST for a business that does not charge it, is left out of that area.
  4. 04Your overall score is the plain average of the five areas, so each area counts the same.
  5. 05The plan takes your three lowest areas and gives each a first step and a bigger build step across 12 weeks.

What do the levels mean?

Starting0 to 39Most work still runs by hand. Small, steady steps pay off fast here.
Building40 to 59Some systems are in place. Joining them up is the next win.
Ready60 to 79Your basics are solid. AI can now save real time and money.
Leading80 to 100You run on systems. Keep them reviewed and plan the next step.

There is no comparison with other businesses. No reliable public data exists for that, so this tool does not invent one.

Questions about the AI readiness assessment

Yes. The full result and 90-day plan show on this page with no sign-up, and your answers stay in your browser.

Each answer is worth 0 to 3 points. An area score is its points out of the most it could get, from 0 to 100, and the overall score is the average of the five areas.

No. There is no reliable public data on how Malaysian SMEs score, so the result only measures your answers against the questions. Retake it later to compare with yourself.

AI and automation work on your records. If invoices, customer data and tax are not in order, automating them spreads the mess faster, so compliance is one of the five areas.
